Yesterday saw the long-awaited Weyburn authored book launch take place for Breaking the Silence: Our Stories of Healing and Hope.

Around 60 people heard Ramona Iida and Pamela Guest talk about part of their stories which are in the book.

"I'm just really relieved how everything worked out the way that it did and we got to showcase what Dominic's is about for people and getting some community awareness," said Colin Folk, Executive Director Weyburn Group Homes Society.

"This is going hopefully carry more information for people to break their silence, come forward and at least begin the path to recovery for whatever their facing for an illness."

There has been positive outcomes before the book has been published.
People have been messaging Iida and the other book compilation team members to thank them for a launching point to share their stories.

Iida said that people were nervous about sharing their stories in the book because they have never told anyone before.

Folk said he is encouraged by the launch and feedback already received.

"I think that just from the response we've had here today and in the community right now weve already got people talking and thats what we want people talking and not being silent."

Folk said that Dominic's is supported by government funding through the health authority.

The book which sold out at the launch will be available in 2-3 weeks in Pharmasave, Old Fashioned Foods, York Jewellers, CMHA and online. An e-book version is available to purchase here.
