Quota International turns 100 years old this year.

The local chapter, Quota International of Weyburn, has been an important service group in Weyburn for 64 years. Each year, Quota of Weyburn hosts the Festival of Carols during the holiday season. Isabelle Butters is the only remaining charter member of Quota International of Weyburn. She said the Festival of Carols began in the 1950s.

"It was an opportunity for kids in the city to perform in front of an audience, which they really didn't have the opportunity to do at that time," she recalled. "That has changed over the years, but I can tell you that we have several Quotarians in our club today who sang in the Carol Festivals way back when they were in school."

Each year, Quota of Weyburn also hosts the Women of the Year awards.

"Women of the Year is our major project," said Butters. "We have no difficulty finding people that are really justified to be nominated," she said. "We appreciate the organizations that nominate them because that's what makes it a success. We have to have those nominations. We really appreciate that. It is our major fundraiser."

The service group also contributes locally to a number of organizations, including the Salvation Army, the Family Place, and the Weyburn Public Library.

"The kid's area at the library is named after Marlene Yurkowski, who was a Quotarian and the librarian," said Butters.

The group also provides hearing systems for schools with kids who are hard of hearing, with some schools having them in several classrooms.

"The hard of hearing and the disadvantaged women and children have been international projects," Butters noted.

The local group also takes part in scholarship programs for students of Southeast College.
