This week the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce has launched a brand new campaign called 'Meet Weyburn' that aims to strengthen the local economy, support local employment opportunities, and ensure that small businesses thrive in a post-pandemic economy.

"This is a fantastic campaign for an opportunity to showcase the businesses in Weyburn," stated Executive Director Larry Heggs. "Just the fact that there are so many things to offer in our community that we can build upon. We wanted to stay away from the 'shop local' piece and instead we are saying 'may we suggest'. Because there are so many fantastic places in Weyburn from car dealers to restaurants. There's everything here that you need and we just need to make sure that we understand what we have to offer in our community."

The campaign will feature 25 local businesses within the Weyburn area in a series of videos that will be shared to the Chamber's social media pages as well as on their new Meet Weyburn Facebook page.

The first video will be shared on Monday, September 13 with the rest being shared over the following weeks leading up to Christmas.

"These videos will help people to get a feel for why they want to do business, what makes business in Weyburn successful, and how the Chamber can help them," Heggs explained. "So every three days we will issue a new video and they will showcase those businesses. The whole idea behind 'Meet Weyburn' is to make sure people understand that those jobs and the money that you spend in Weyburn is so impactful to our local economy that it can't be overstated."

Heggs added that if people were to spend 10% more of their money than they were already going to spend elsewhere now in Weyburn it would add 278 new jobs, it would increase Weyburn's total labor income by over $12 Million, and would generate $31.2 Million in local GDP.

"These numbers are astounding and it's only 10%," expressed Heggs. "So if we can just think of Weyburn first to revitalize the fact that shopping local is so impactful and it changes our local economy in every way possible."

Heggs said that the Chamber did their best to provide a wide variety of local businesses for this campaign including machine shops, agricultural, restaurants, car dealers, and much more.

The Chamber plans to throw in a few surprises along the way and they hope to see as many local people as possible liking and sharing their new 'Meet Weyburn' Facebook page.
