The City of Weyburn will be adding four new vehicles to their fleet, after a unanimous vote by city council at their meeting Monday night. The additions are intended to replace a number of vehicles, some of which are more than 30 years old.

In addition to replacing older trucks still in service by the Public Works Department, the council also approved the purchase of an SUV for use by City Hall staff.

“We are expanding, so we have an assistant engineer, we are looking at hiring an asset manager and a development engineer as well, so this is the reason for having an extra SUV,” explained Nader Keshta, the director of engineering with the City of Weyburn.

The new trucks being purchased are all coming from local businesses.

Great Plains Ford will be providing a crew cab truck along with a cab & chassis for a service vehicle, and the SUV. The crew cab truck will be used for Public Works and Water Treatment Plant operations. The one-ton cab & chassis will be equipped with a service body and welder for use by Public Works.

Barber Motors will also be providing a crew cab truck for Public Works.

The city budget for 2019 had set aside $195,000 for the four new vehicles. The purchases came in under budget at $154,242, with another $25,000 expected to be spent for the upgrades to the cab and chassis.
