A huge inconvenience for RBC customers trying to pay utility bills to the city for the first 16 days of 2019. Confusion led to the city of Weyburn being removed from the list of payable vendors on the online banking site and app for RBC users.

Every five years the City tenders out its banking services and in the springtime, the City notified the bank it would be switching banking services. Then last fall, RBC informed the city it would start charging fees if they wanted to remain a payee on their electronic banking services. The city notified head office they were the only bank charging these fees and they had been exempt from paying them in the past.

Then on January 1, RBC Corporate made the executive decision to remove Weyburn from its list of payees and did not notify the local RBC branch in town, or the city's finance department. The mix-up caused great confusion between residents, the city and the bank, as customers were unable to pay their utility bills online or over the phone.

As of January 17, the problem had been solved and RBC customers can utilize electronic banking services with the city, at no charge to anyone.

No doubt a wacky situation that developed over the past few days and the City would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding with the issue. As well as the local RBC branch who worked hard to fix the issue.
