Extreme winter weather tends to bring out the best in people on the prairies, with many people helping their neighbours with snow removal after last week's dump of snow. At least one local business even offered free car battery boosts during the record-breaking cold on Friday.

Another good deed done recently is getting some attention on social media. Constable Dani Zaya With the Carlyle RCMP has been receiving a lot of positive feedback for a recent act of kindness. The Facebook post showing Zaya's act of kindness was made by the Town of Arcola and has been shared nearly 2,000 times.

"One of our members (Constable Dani Zaya) just happened to be driving through Arcola, saw an individual shovelling snow, an elderly lady, and so he took the opportunity to stop and give her a hand," shared Staff Sergeant Darren Simons with the Carlyle detachment. "Another member helped tow someone out of their driveway. Just with all the extra snow, their two-wheel drive truck couldn't get out."

Simons explained that when officers notice someone in need, they try to help them out if they can because it's the right thing to do.

"Everyone seems to forget that we're human beings," explained Simons. "We all have mothers, grandparents, fathers, siblings. So, sometimes we see someone who needs help and we just stop and help. It makes us feel good, we've accomplished something, and then we just carry on with our duties. We don't do it for any recognition, we just do it because it's the right thing to do at the right time."
