Weyburn Comprehensive High School emailed parents about incidents of an infection in the student population.

The Email told parents that there have been some instances of Scabies in some of the students.

If there is a concern that a child in the family is infected, the family physician should be contacted.

Scabies is a skin disease caused by a tiny insect, which burrows itself under the skin to lay its eggs.

Symptoms can include intense itching, small red slightly raised spots and a possibility of tiny blisters.

Common places are between fingers, on wrists or belt lines and in the folds of the skin but can appear anywhere on the body.

Scabies-causing mites can live in clothing and bedding for three days according to the Ministry of Health for the Saskatchewan Government.
