The Weyburn Credit Union has announced a partnership with the Weyburn Gymnastics Club with a grant from the WCU Community Fund of $10,000.

"They had approached us for funding to help them move facilities and when a gymnastics club moves facilities it is no easy feat. They needed special renovations, improvements and equipment," explained Tana Torkelson, VP of Marketing, Weyburn Credit Union.

Torkelson added that the gymnastics club had approached them in the Fall of 2017 for funding from the WCU Community Fund which is used to "develop organisations to grow sustainable programs and projects that enhance Weyburn and Surrounding Communities."

A portion of the WCU profits goes into the fund each year.

"The gymnastics club is really helping to raise the leaders of tomorrow. Extracurricular activities and sports are so important for kids to develop leadership skills and the confidence and just become well-rounded individuals," added Torkelson who also said she is lucky to see all the work the WCU does first hand.

"The mandate for the gymnastics club is to promote fun and fitness in the community of Weyburn and we think that's an important value and we share that."

In a press release from the Weyburn Gymnastics Club Board of Directors said "Our challenge, like many non-profit organisations, is to find a balance between rising operational/equipment costs and providing quality programs. We sincerely thank Weyburn Credit Union for their donation. This additional funding will help us in achieving our dream of expanding our programming to accommodate the needs of our growing number of participants."

The fund does not provide grants for day to day expenses to organisations but tries to support initiatives that provide a long-standing positive impact in the community.

Torkelson said, "We believe in being involved in the community and we put our money where our mouth is."
