Just one day after the Southeast was hammered by a series of thunderstorms, now a break from the heat wave which has been gripping the region.

Terri Laing with Environment Canada explained the low-pressure system responsible for the storms has combined with smoke from wildfires in British Columbia that have gotten caught up in the jetstream.

“All of that will combine to bring down the temperature for at least a day or two, and it does look like there will be some good shower activity and good rainfall with that as well,” Laing said, providing some good news for the ears of those who need the rain, such as many producers south of Weyburn. She did caution, though, the rain will be spotty, as opposed to a general rainfall.

The cooler air is expected to lower daytime highs in Weyburn to around the 23°-28° for the next 48 hours. The relief from the heat wave is short-lived, though, with Friday’s forecast high back up to 36°.
