There's nothing quite like a child’s birthday party to put the ‘fun’ in fundraiser.

A birthday-themed event was held last Thursday to raise funds for the Cornish family.

Kevin and Crystal Cornish's son Nolan is now one year old, but is in hospital in Saskatoon recovering from surgeries, with more trips to Edmonton for additional surgeries expected.

The family has benefited from community generosity to help cover expenses incurred being away from home for Nolan's medical procedures.

The fundraiser was held at the Free Methodist Church and ran like a come-and-go family carnival.

“Our evening at the Cornish fundraiser included all sorts of birthday party themed events. We had a bouncy, castle, we had a photo booth, we had hot dogs and popcorn, cupcakes and ice cream and balloons. It was a proper party for Nolan,” said Kristin Waroma, one of the event’s organizers.

“We even had one of the church members doing some juggling as well,” she added. She noted that the church rental was donated, as were all of the food and even the bouncy castles, such that everything raised that evening goes directly to the Cornish family.

More than three thousand dollars was raised.

“That’s going toward helping the Cornish family with their expenses being away from home in the hospital, and potentially towards equipment expenses and ongoing expenses with Nolan going forward.”
