On Sunday Coronach, Saskatchewan was the hottest place in the country for the second time in one week.

The temperature reached a sweltering 36.3 degrees. Which was only point one degree warmer than Weyburn.

Residents of Coronach have toughed through the week and are now seeing slightly cooler temperatures than before. However, not cool enough and still with no rain.

"This part of the province has traditionally been warmer," said Jim Achtymichuk, Deputy Mayor and Town Councilor for Coronach. "We're coping, it's no surprise to us to have usually one to three days per summer like this. But not 12 to 14 in a row. So our air conditioner bills are gonna be higher. The lawns and gardens are suffering. People aren't watering them as much and some have given up completely. The farmers are pulling their hair out, wondering whether they should be plowing under or not even wasting gas on that. It's tough on little kids espescially, they have a hard time even expressing what the discomfort is. They forget to drink water and unless the parents are right on top of it forcing water into them, it can be a serious danger. The pets suffer from that as well."

There has been one plus for the community.

"Our pool has been extra busy this year," added Achtymichuk.

They recently finished construction of a splash park and they hope to have it up and running in a week or two, which most residents of Coronach will be quite happy to experience.

The weather forecast says that Coronach could receive a small amount of rain on Friday, but it looks quite hot and dry otherwise.

On Sunday Weyburn hit 36.2 degrees and Yellow Grass reached 36 degrees.

When you experience temperatures like this make sure to avoid sun exposure as much as possible, wear sunscreen with an spf 30 or higher, wear sun protective hats and clothing, drink plenty of water and replenish your electrolytes as well.
