The agenda for Weyburn City Council’s meeting Tuesday night is packed, as they prepare for their semi-monthly meeting. The meetings are normally held on Mondays, but the long weekend bumped it back a day. This will also be the second meeting since the change to move the start time to 5:00 p.m.

The meeting will start off with a number of proclamations. These will include the Proclamation of October 15th to 21st as United Way Communithon Week, the Proclamation of October 8th to 14th as Fire Prevention Week, and the proclamation of October 15th as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

A delegation will also make a presentation to council regarding speed limits in school zones. The delegation will ask council to consider adding a time limit to the speed limit, similar to many other centres across the province and country. The proposed times going before council will be from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with the speed limit at 40 kilometres an hour outside of those times.

Council will also receive regular reports. This week, those will include an economic development report, as well as a water treatment plant report.

The development levy bylaw will once again be before council. It is expected the revised bylaw will receive its first reading. This will move the process to allow for further public consultation on the bylaw, before receiving a second and third reading at a future meeting.

Council will consider a request from a resident regarding the removal of trees, and will talk about how to handle the replacement of streetlights in downtown Weyburn.

The options for the streetlights include partnering with SaskPower, which would see the city limited in options for the types of poles to use, as well as the type of bulbs used, or to go it alone, with full control over the lights and poles.

There will also be talk about possible revisions to the Board of Police Commissioners Bylaws. The changes being talked about would include expanding the number of at-large members of the board from two to four.

We will have full coverage of the meeting on-air and online Wednesday morning.
