The purpose of the Weyburn and District Foundation is to raise the funds for a new hospital.

The organization has been carrying out their mission since 2008.

This week Cogent Accounting donated $5000 to the foundation.

Back in 2013, Cogent pledged $50,000 for the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation. They've been annually giving us $5000 towards their pledge," said Melanie Sorensen, Office Manager, Weyburn, and District Foundation.

"We're extremely grateful for that ongoing support. It keeps us going and keeps us striving towards our ultimate goal of building and equipping a hospital here for Weyburn and area."

The foundation's initial goal was $20 million to build the facility.

"In 2014 we achieved that initial $20 million, goal and we've been working since then to raise funds to ensure we have enough to equip the facility when it's finally approved and ready to be built."

The new goal of an extra $10 million is in place, designated for new hospital equipment. Total raised so far is $22 million.

Sorensen expressed the gratitude of the foundation to Cogent.

"It's very important for the local community and specifically businesses, to step forward and donate to causes that create a better community," explained Ted Hillstead, Partner at Cogent in Weyburn.

"The Hospital Foundation is one of those very important causes, that without a viable hospital and health care system, we would have less of a community. So this is really a community builder."

The provincial government is yet to give the announcement for the Hospital to be built.

Sorensen added that it is important that the funds in place so when the announcement is made, the project can move ahead.
