The increasingly dry conditions for Weyburn and area are taking quite a toll on local crops.

"It's kind of a downer year here for farming crops and cattle south of Weyburn," says Dale Paslawski a local farmer. "I know a lot of the pastures have really dried up and have turned brown which I haven't seen in a long time."

Even if Weyburn receives rain in the next couple weeks it may be too late to help crops. However, rain fall isn't the only thing that contributes to the quality of crops.

"It depends on your soil type, snow pack that you had, the couple rains that did come through the area," says Paslawski. "If you got the rains your crops are looking a little better, overall they are stunted and short."

Local farmers will be waiting to see what the next couple of weeks bring, as with nature and farming, it can be all too unpredictable.
