Last week, Kevin Philips, MLA for Melfort unexpectedly passed away at the age of 63.

"I'm not sure it's really sunk in yet. He was just at work a week ago Thursday. Just a really great guy," said Dustin Duncan, MLA Weyburn-Big Muddy.

For Duncan, it was easy to see how "great of a guy" Philips was with condolence motions which were done on Tuesday last week.

"It wasn't just members of the Saskatchewan Party that were remembering Kevin fondly. Members of the opposition got up as well and spoke to how decent of a man he was."

This is not the first time the Saskatchewan Party have had to mourn a member of the Legislative Assembly. Roger Parent passed away almost a year ago in November 2016 also at the age of 63. Parent had been diagnosed with cancer. It is

Duncan added that Philips was known by Weyburn City Council members who were in office before 2011.

"He was the Mayor of Melfort for a number of years and so he got to know our former mayor Debra button and members of the council. and just knew people through municipal politics so I know there's a lot of people around Weyburn who knew Kevin and are thinking a lot about his family too, feeling the loss, he was just a really great guy, its hard," said Duncan.

The funeral for Kevin Philips is today in Melfort.
