The Provincial Government proclaimed October 15th - 21st, Education Week. Schools across Saskatchewan have been celebrating Education and Teachers.

Weyburn Schools have been taking part including a special challenge.

"Minister Bronwyn Eyre had challenged us all that we should take a moment, reflect upon our education and think about and thank a favourite teacher. We have all been blessed with teachers who have made a positive impact in our lives and I encourage all of us to do the same," said Lynn Little, Director of Education, South East Cornerstone School Division.

Little added that though it is hard to name just one teacher since she has had many good teachers, her grade one teacher Mrs Thompson will always have a special place in her heart.

"As soon as one starts talking about teachers, one has had, then its funny what it brings up in terms of things you remember and things that stay with you," said Bronwyn Eyre, Minister of Education, Government of Saskatchewan.

"We all have them, don't we? Whether it's at the elementary level or post-secondary or in high school, there are those teachers who challenge our perspectives and as I said, go beyond the call and we will always remember them."

Eyre had a teacher, Madam Steip in grade four and five, who she says was "warm and engaging."

Eyre added that it is an important thing to reflect on educators and teachers that have been influential in our lives.

The theme for Education week set by the provincial government is "building our future by learning together."

St Michaels school have used this theme to inspire them with building block activities. They are having a Lego Brick Wall competition with students competing against teachers.

Weyburn Comprehensive High School had a lunch auction where students bid upon prepared lunches by teachers.

"They get quite creative," said Marie Campbell, Learning Support Teacher, Weyburn Comprehensive High School.

"One year, there was a bucket of chicken from KFC and sometimes its something, their signature homemade dish."

"Sometimes they bid up to $80 a meal."

"This year we raised around $400," added Campbell.

There was also a "bring your parent to breakfast" event where the S.T.A.R.S Choir performed.

Haig school had a Barbecue Wednesday evening for Teachers, Students and their families.

Queen Elizabeth School has a book fair running all week, a family event book fair, as well as a Spirit Day. The Spirit day involved students dressing as their future self in whatever career they think they may have in the 21st century. Community members are also going to the school to read to students.

Assiniboia Park Elementary School had a performance involving the grade 1-6 students with a taco bag supper and a book fair.

Souris School planned a "Pack a parent" lunch with a special Communithon Assembly.

All the schools in Weyburn are performing in the Communithon Friday and included this as a highlight of the Education Week.
