A pursuit just north of Weyburn Tuesday morning, involving RCMP members from three different detachments.

It all began around 11:30 a.m., when Fillmore RCMP, who were responding to a threat complaint, approached a stopped vehicle just west of Vibank. The driver, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, fled from the police, going west along Highway 48.

RCMP followed a short distance, without turning on their lights. Once the suspect vehicle was seen to be driving erratically, and swerving towards oncoming traffic, police turned on the emergency lights, and the pursuit began.

Spike belts were deployed in the chase. The suspect vehicle was damaged, but wasn’t stopped by the belts. Eventually, the chase ended when police forced the suspect off the road along a gravel road. The decision was made to end the chase that way for public safety.

There were no injuries in the incident, and the suspect was taken into custody. There was some damage to one police vehicle, in addition to the suspect vehicle. The Fillmore RCMP were assisted in the incident by members from the Indian Head and Weyburn detachments.
