The city of Weyburn is under a fire ban. The ban was announced by Fire Chief Simon Almond early Tuesday afternoon.

Taking effect at 1:30 p.m., the ban is for all recreational, solid fuel fires. This includes campfires, or any fires using solid fuels.

“It is due to the extremely dry conditions, but more importantly, for the atmospheric conditions that we’re experiencing right now in regards to the smoke,” explained Almond.

The ban isn’t expected to last too long. Almond stated, depending on the weather conditions, it could be lifted as soon as Friday or Saturday.
