A new foundation has been created to provide support for men in Weyburn and the surrounding area who have cancer.

"There's absolutely nothing for men that we found, as far as being specific to mens cancer so we just kind of sat down, we've been thinking about it for a couple of years, and we just decided to start his foundation," said David Kater, Chairman, Walking the Walk for Mens Cancer.

"All the funds we receive with this charity will be used to help men with the treatments of cancer with respect to their needs and how much we can help them with what we have.

Mayor Marcel Roy made a private donation, Thursday, to the charity. This was also the first donation to launch the fundraising for the foundation.

"We'd like to thank Mayor Roy for his donation, it's the very first donation to this charity. He's very supportive of us and has been right from the start, so we thank him for that," said Kater.

"There was a need from within our community for the support of men's cancer, I've had some very close friends that have had some cancer issues and there wasn't anything there for them. So this is one of those other ways of reaching and helping give back to the community," said Marcel Roy, Mayor of Weyburn.

Lauren Kater, Wife of David talked about some of the ways the foundation will be aiming to help Male Cancer patients including supporting men through their diagnosis of cancer, financial support, provide rides to appointments and coffees,"whatever they need."

On Saturday, November 4th, there is a Cheeseburger Supper planned at Detours to raise funds for the foundation. This will include a silent auction.

Tickets are $25 per person and will run from 5 - 10 pm.

"We would like to see this grow and be able to hold a few events over the year, just to provide support for the men who are going through cancer, just trying to help them as much as we can."

Walking the Walk for Mens Cancer has a Facebook page, which can be found here.
