It was just a few years ago the KFC in Weyburn was faced with the possibility of having to close the renowned buffet due to pressure from the head offices of Yum! Canada. Now, the restaurant is celebrating a grand re-opening after a large scale renovation over the winter months.

“We're very proud of how the store looks, and we finally got our image, and our number one thing is we’re very proud to have the KFC buffet on with KFC Weyburn,” said Larie Semen, the franchise owner.

The buffet continues to remain the highlight of the store.

It was back in May of 2016 the community of Weyburn rallied to show the support for the last remaining KFC buffet of its kind in Canada. With voices ranging from TSN's Jay Onrait to Weyburn’s then-Mayor Debra Button and Saskatchewan's then-premier Brad Wall all in support of the buffet, the decision was made by Yum! To keep the buffet as it exists.

“If it wasn’t for the community, and all their support, we wouldn’t have the buffet today,” Semen added.

The grand re-opening will be held at the KFC restaurant Monday, with the ribbon cutting at 11:00 a.m.
