It is a hashtag which has taken over social media in Weyburn. #concussionsarenotphair.

Started by longtime Weyburn Red Wings fan Samantha Tindall, it is an awareness campaign named after former Red Wings goaltender Carter Phair. Phair retired from hockey earlier this season, after suffering a concussion during a game.

“We’re using the Phair last name because it fits so well, and we’re saying concussions aren’t fair,” Tindall explained. “There needs to be awareness, there needs to be talk about head injuries and concussions that can happen in sports like this.”

Tindall said the goal is to increase awareness and education about head injuries, as they can be different in every person. “What might take somebody two weeks to recover, might take somebody three weeks; everybody’s brain is different.”

The campaign has been embraced by the players on the Weyburn Red Wings, as they even took time with Tindall to pose for a photo and receive a shirt.

Those who are interested in getting a shirt can contact Tindall through Facebook.
