Weyburn's heat wave didn't deter the crowds from flocking to this year's Weyburn Agricultural Society Fair Days. Over 7,500 people attended Fair Days this year, which occurred July 1 to 8.

Over 1,500 people came to the chuckwagon and chariot races July 2 and 3 and over 6,000 people attended the Canuck Amusements midway between July 5 and 8, according to President of the Weyburn Agricultural Society Jeff Clay. He said the first night of the midway, which featured half price wrist bands and $2 admission, was very busy.

"We had 2,500 people through the gates on Thursday night alone, so that was awesome to see," shared Clay. "Probably one of the higher numbers we've seen in the last few years. It was a beautiful evening."

They had 1,200 people through the gates on Friday, 1,000 on Saturday and 1,300 on Sunday.

Clay said the biggest issue the fair ran into was the heat, which was high enough to earn a heat warning from Environment Canada during some days of the eight-day event, including the final day on Sunday.

"All-in-all I want to call this year a huge success."

The first annual smoker cook-off had eight entries. The team called Seriously Smoking from Pense won the competition.

The 4-H events were a success, with the 4-H steer sale averaging $2.59 a pound. The grand champion steer was won by Ben Saffery and Cassidy Shostrand earned reserve champion steer, both from the Cymri club. Grand champion heifer winner went to Garret Liebrecht and reserve went to Carson Liebrecht, both from Radville.

The Souris River Rodeo on July 6 and 7 had more than 300 entries.
