Pony rides and ax-throwing are two of the many events taking place on Saturday in the Village of Lang.

Heritage Day aspires to continue on with the success of Lang’s Homecoming Day, held last summer.

“We had a very successful homecoming last year, and people said maybe we should continue having one day a year,” said Ray Beck with the Lang Community Club. “So we decided to try it.”

He explained that there is a full fun-filled day on the agenda, but a fundraiser has been added this year as well.

“This year we need to buy some new equipment for our firefighters,” said Beck. “All our masks are outdated, and we can’t get them re-certified, so we have to buy three new ones, which are fairly costly. So that’s what the money is going to go towards.”

“Our equipment is outdated, especially our breathing masks, and we need to have three of them, so we decided to have a one-day celebration to try to raise the money and all the proceeds will go to the firefighters’ equipment,” he said.

“It’s important for every small town to have such a thing,” said Beck, adding that the town's firefighters didn't have the equipment needed during a recent house fire.

“It was in the basement, so we could not go in, because our masks were not certified,” he explained. “So we had to wait for Milestone to get there, and ten minutes makes a big difference sometimes. So, anyhow, that’s what we’re going to use the money for.”

He explained that the $1,900 cost incurred from the training will be covered with help from Heritage Day.

“We have a full day of events,” he said. “All proceeds will go to firefighters’ equipment. We just had six of them come to Weyburn to take their training on the breath masks, which is really good.”

Beginning at 8:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast, the day will include a silent auction for adults and another for children, a nostalgia event, children’s activities including bouncy castles and pony rides, a Slo-Pitch tournament, an ax-throwing competition, and more. There is even a community cookbook that will begin selling that day. The entire day’s events are listed HERE.
