A piece of Weyburn's history is returning to the city.

A bell, originally a part of the old Weyburn Post Office as part of the clock mechanism, was unveiled outside of City Hall May 17.

The 361.5 kilogram (797 pounds) bell was cast by the Taylor Bell Foundry in Loughborough, England in 1913.

It began its journey in Liverpool, then was sent to Montreal to be dispatched, along with five other bells, for municipal buildings here in Canada. It stayed in the old post office until it was torn down in 1986.

The bell has been donated to the city by Norman and the late Sandra Mryglod in memory of their late son, Glenn Mryglod.

It has found its final home outside of the Weyburn City Hall, which was once a post office itself.

From left to right: Jeff Chessall Chair of Tatagwa Parks Board, Bob Sater designed the new bell monument, Councilor Winston Bailey, Councillor Dick Michel, Laurie Schmidt with the tatagwa Parks Board, Claude Morrin Superintendent of Public Works and Parks, Kristine Paul with the City of Weyburn, Linda Prokott with the City of Weyburn, and Glenn Rogers with the Tatagwa Parks Board.
