A house fire on the 400-block of 4th Avenue Southeast in Weyburn early Saturday morning has left one person dead.

(photo courtesy Mark Nestman)The Weyburn Police Service and Weyburn Fire Department received the call of the house fire around 4:45 a.m. Fire Chief Simon Almond said the fire was fully involved, and firefighters went to work attacking the fire. While battling the blaze, crews found an 84-year-old woman, who had passed away.

“Cause (of the fire) is being investigated right now,” Chief Almond stated. “Because of how serious the fire (was), the Saskatchewan Fire Commissioner's office is coming down.” The investigation will be in conjunction with the Weyburn Fire Department, the Weyburn Police Service and the Fire Commissioner’s office.

There was no damage to any adjacent properties, although the neighbouring properties were evacuated due to smoke.
