Weyburn's Humane Society has been busy with the cold temperatures leading to a large number of cats that need to be re-housed with new families.

The cost of adoption has been lowered to $50 for a period of time, for a spayed or neutered cat.

"We are at double capacity with our cats and we are trying to get them moved out," explained Pam Arndt-Schick, President, Weyburn Humane Society.

There are currently around 48 cats at the Humane Society in need of a home.

"People in Weyburn leave their cats out and with the cold weather, they're getting picked up and they are looking for more warmer places to hide so they are getting under peoples decks and under the engines of vehicles and so people are bringing them in."

Arndt-Shick added that these cats are not being claimed.

"A very important thing is to microchip your pet. So that if it does get lost and when it shows up in the humane society we can just scan it and see who it belongs to."

"When you adopt a cat, of course, definitely spay and neuter it, keep it indoors. If you are going to let it outside make sure it's on a leash, don't let it run loose."

The Humane Society is also currently selling "Raise the Woof tickets" until November 24th to help raise funds for a new shelter.
