It would appear this is the summer of infrastructure renewal in Weyburn. A number of projects are underway, which Weyburn Mayor Marcel Roy is happy to see.

“We’re seeing the downtown street lights being renewed, which will give us light, and make the long, dark nights of winter that much brighter here,” Roy said.

The new street lights are being installed along 3rd Street, and Souris Avenue. The traffic lights at the intersection of Souris and 3rd are to be replaced as well. The new standards will house LED lights

The lights downtown aren’t the only lights being replaced. The lights along Highway 39 within the city are expected to be replaced this year by SaskPower, making the conversion to LED lighting. The guard rails along Highway 39 were also replaced between Government Road and 3rd Street by the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure.

Water is a key part of the infrastructure in the city, and there are two key projects are underway. The new water reservoir is well underway and is on schedule to be fully operational by next summer.

There is also the revitalization of the way water gets to residents as well. Water mains along Government Road are being replaced between 1st Avenue and Coteau Avenue. The work will also see the stretch being repaved once the main replacement is complete.

“It’s very exciting to see this happening; so pleased to see the decisions by the council to move forward on these projects,” Roy added.

The majority of the work happening downtown and along Government Road is expected to be wrapped up by the end of August.
