With Mayor Marcel Roy, Police Chief Jamie Blunden and other dignitaries in attendance this morning, the Metis Nation Saskatchewan, Weyburn Local 87, held a Flag-Raising Ceremony at City Hall.

Past president Don LaFoie said he was there for the first event held in 2019.

"We were actually our first one in the province to do flag raising and proclamation, so that was a feather cap," he said.

He said membership is up in the area but they expect more to join as they gain more momentum.

"There's more that come out all the time. Some of them come back. There's been a lot of different stuff going with the Metis here in town, and a lot of it has made some bad memories for people," explained LaFoie. "Which is what we're trying to change. Hopefully it'll work."

Refreshments were served to the approximately 30 people in attendance.
