Autism is something that impacts many Saskatchewan families. With funds in both education and autism being cut, one family from Midale is trying to make a difference.

"We want to see them succeed, we want them to grow and to develop from little people into really great adults," says Katie Emde an autism advocate. "Having a child with autism is no easy task, every child on the spectrum is different."

When it comes to autism there are no easy answers and many children have special needs that need to be met. It is easy to see that many families can succumb to stress due to lack of knowledge, resources, and finances.

Emde, who's son is autistic, has been a resource for many families who aren't exactly sure what options are out there. She is now taking it to the next level by not only supporting those families with knowledge but by holding a province wide fundraiser to give Saskatchewan families some much need financial support.

"In Saskatchewan, we have really made it, I guess, easy that these families will be able to get some financial help," says Emde. " We are only doing this one time though and it will be a province, wide fundraiser."

Emde adds that they are in the beginning stages of planning the fundraiser. One of the first things needed is to have all the families applicable register for the fundraiser to receive funds.

Emde welcomes applications as well as questions and support. If you are looking for more information contact Katie Emde via email at katienimegeers@gmail.com
