A new building will be constructed in place of the one that is currently being demolished. The demolition of the former Weyburn Junior High School is set to be complete by mid-September.

“We were approved by the ministry to construct a brand new pre-K to 6 elementary school in Weyburn, along with a 51 seat childcare space,” said Andy Dobson, Facilities Manager with the Southeast Cornerstone Public School Division. “So that was for the school division to build that. The board decided to put it on the Weyburn Junior High site, and the city ended up partnering with us, and they’re going to be adding a recreation centre, gallery, field house building.”

Dobson said that the plans for the new project are just being finished up at the administrative end.

“Once the junior high is removed, then we’ll be going to tender in the fall for a general contractor, and hopefully we’ll have somebody in place and the project will get started, to start to mobilize, likely in November,” he added.

He noted that the plan is to have the new facility ready be September of 2020.
