SaskPower is reporting a power outage in the areas of Oungre, Tribune, Ratcliffe and Bromhead.

The outage was first reported at 1:18 p.m. and is expected to be fixed around 2 p.m.

"What is happening is some of our poles are actually falling over right now so you're seeing some outages across the province either from poles that are falling over or, as well, trees that are hitting the lines," said Laura McKnight, SaskPower spokesperson. She said some of the damaging wind gusts have exceeded 90 kilometres per hour.

SaskPower is reminding all Saskatchewan residents to stay safe during this wind storm, especially if they come across downed power lines. The crown corporation said those who come across downed power lines should stay far away.

"The first thing is don't near (the line). Lines, though they are down, they could still be energized and become very dangerous if you get too close so stay back about 10 meters at least. That's about the length of a few cars and then call SaskPower or 911 immediately," said McKnight. SaskPower's number is 306-310-2220.

SaskPower's twitter feed has the most up-to-date power outage information and, when they can provide it, an estimated time for when the power should be back on. McKnight explained the duration of a power outage can very greatly depending on the location and cause of the outage. Sometimes power can be rerouted and returned more quickly while repairs continue on another line. Other times an outage must last longer for a proper repair she said.

"We do recommend that our customers have an unplanned outage kit at home. This would include such things as water, food, blankets, candles, flashlights that they can use during an outage," said McKnight.

According to Environment Canada, strong winds that may cause damage are occurring throughout the southeast and the area is currently under a wind warning. These winds may peak in the 70 gusting 90 km/h range during the late morning and early afternoon hours before diminishing slightly later in the afternoon.

Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and windows, may occur. Environment Canada warns resident to be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.
