The City of Weyburn is ahead of schedule with the project happening on Government Road.

"We are changing water main, we are changing sewer connections, we are changing all the water connections to the houses," said Engineering Director Nader Keshta.

"We will be inspecting all the storm drains, if it needs to be replaced, we will be replacing it," he added.

Keshta said there will be an entirely new infrastructure under the ground, which will also include new connections at each of the houses, storm drains and new valves.

A temporary overland water supply is being provided free of charge to residents in the area who are affected by the project. While some cities bill their residents for the usage of fire hydrant supply, Keshta noted that Weyburn is not billing its residents as a show of appreciation for their patience throughout the duration of the project. Residents hooked up to the hydrant supply are currently under a boil water advisory until the end of the work.

Once the replacement has been complete, the entirety of the road will be repaved all at once.

The job was originally set to be complete by August 31, but now that the project is already 75 per cent complete, it is expected to be complete by the third week in August.
