The provincial government is undertaking a review of trespass legislation as they look to see if changes are needed.

The province’s current laws for trespassing on rural property are regulated in five different Acts - The Trespass to Property Act, The Wildlife Act, 1998, The All-Terrain Vehicles Act, The Snowmobile Act and The Provincial Lands Regulations. The rules have been said to be confusing, as they vary for different reasons.

To help with the review, Saskatchewan’s Ministry of Justice is asking residents for input. A questionnaire has been made available on their website. It asks questions such as whether all access by the public to rural property require advance permission from the landowner, no matter the activity.

The questionnaires, when completed, can be mailed in or sent by email. The deadline to provide the responses to the questionnaire is October 1st.
