While the names of this year's Women of the Year nominees haven't yet been released, Quota International of Weyburn has announced they have received a number of impressive nominations.

“This year we're very fortunate to have 12 different nominees, 14 nominations in total,” said Quotarian Melanie Sorenson. “So we have six nominations in the Workplace Excellence category, two for Community Service, three for the Exceptional Entrepreneur and three for the Young Woman of Distinction. So two of our ladies were nominated in two separate categories.”

She said one woman receiving a nomination in more than one category isn't something that happens every year.

Quotarian Jo-Anne Bannatyne-Cugnet said they're grateful to the community for nominating the women.

She explained how the event serves as a fundraiser for the service group.

“These funds that are raised through this event are spent in our community, whether it's the Weyburn Public Library or scholarships at Southeast College,” said Cugnet. “So the money that we make by this venture goes out to our community, but it also gives us an opportunity to honour the wonderful women in our community who make a difference.”

She said more than 200 women would have been nominated over the past 19 years of the awards.

This year’s nominees will be announced at a tea on March 24th.
