Weyburn and area received rain over the weekend bringing the harvest to a halt. However, there are some positives to the moisture.

"It'll sure help with the fire hazard anyway in the fields because it's dampened up the grass and the stubble that's standing," says Dale Paslawski, local Weyburn farmer.

Farmers already have a large chunk of crops harvested and are ahead of schedule.

Temperatures have also started dipping low in the evening bringing the question of frost into the equation.

"If we got any frost right now the crop is mature enough, I don't think it would do any damage, soybeans seem to be fairly tolerant to frost, all the other crops, flax and canola that's still standing are laying in the swath and it can't hurt it now, so frost isn't much of a concern," says Paslawski.

Farmers are taking this time to focus on fall spraying. In order for the spray to make an impact, it must be done before the frost arrives.
