It was a busy Thanksgiving long weekend for members of the Saskatchewan RCMP, who conducted check stops on some of the province's busiest areas.

Check stops in the area included one on Highway 39 near Weyburn, one near Fillmore, as well as on Highway 33 and Highway 39 outside of Estevan.

A vehicle was stopped for speeding along Highway 1 west of White City at 178 km/H in a110 zone. The driver was charged with impaired driving.

Various other patrols and road safety initiatives were held throughout the province.

Saskatchewan RCMP Combined Traffic Services Section reported 546 speeding tickets over the three-day weekend.

Nine cellphone tickets and nineteen seatbelt tickets were issued, along with 456 written warnings.

Members also responded to a fatal collision near Maple Creek.
