The Provincial budget released Tuesday was anticipated by many as last years budget included many cuts. This year's budget has been considered by many as not exciting, but straight-forward. This view is agreed upon by Southeast College.

Southeast College, who saw their budget reduced last year, has seen an increase in their budget this year as Post-secondary education saw provincial investment across Saskatchewan.

"Overall our college is pleased with the budget and the continued investment in education that this government has identified as a priority," explained Jeff Richards, Vice President of Strategic Development, Southeast College.

"So for us overall it is a 3% increase which is good news. So that increase in the province is targeted at supporting learners in their pursuit of gaining skills required to enter the labour market successfully in today's world."

"Other than that, it is a very straight across the board budget from last year."

The new investment will be put into an essential workplace skills program the college has been developing and can now move ahead with.

There were some changes to colleges scholarship budget but Richards is not concerned and said they will make it work.

"Our college over the years has been able to exert extreme financial discipline so we are a very healthy college and we do very good at budgeting and making sure we meet the needs of government and the needs of our stakeholders, most importantly our stakeholders and our communities.
