Weyburn's Mayor, Marcel Roy has shared his reaction to the Throne Speech delivered at the Legislative Building in Regina, yesterday.

"This is very positive," said Roy who added that they are going back and rethinking the previous budget released earlier in the year.

"They are realizing that the economy is becoming stronger and they don't have to do these measures, so its a very positive outlook."

One of the points included in the speech under Education saw Math being a low point for the Province.

"They are going to go back to the old curriculum of math."

"Saskatchewan scored well at the bottom with this new math they are teaching Elementary Schools, so they are canceling it out and going to go back to the Old Math," explained Roy.

It says in the speech, "To improve math scores and ensure all Saskatchewan students are well-schooled in the basics of math, my government will expand math reinforcement and supports, broadening access to common sense methods that have been proven successful in the past and in other jurisdictions."

It also said that New international models are also being looked at.

Mayor Roy also highlighted the impact on Senior Weyburn residents, how the government in the coming months are looking to introduce the Seniors Education Property Tax Deferral Program.

"This program will give seniors with household incomes under $70,000 the option to defer the education portion of the property taxes on their home. These measures, together with tax reductions which have saved a couple with an income of $50,000 more than $13,000, will put more money in the pockets of seniors."

Mayor Roy would like to remind Weyburn residents that all the Saskatchewan Party Leadership Candidates will be in Weyburn, November 30th for one of the six leadership debates at the Cugnet Centre.

"You can come and listen to what these different leaders are doing, and get a first-hand look at what really, the Sask. Party is doing in our province."
