This morning, Trent and Joanne Daunheimer, winners of the 50/50 For Kids Draw to support The Family Place, were presented with their cheque for $26,880.

“I just couldn't believe it, I thought my husband was joking. He phoned and said you'd better sit down, so I sat down and he told me we won the 50/50. I was just like, you gotta be kidding me!” said Joanne Daunheimer, who said they’re considering renovations, a trip, and maybe even helping their son who is going to college.

Dawn Gutzke, Executive Director with The Family Place shared her reaction.

“Overall, I'm just so genuinely pleased,” said Gutzke. "I mean, $26,000 is a huge, huge amount of money when you're not expecting it. So this is overwhelming, first, but we're also very excited and grateful for this money.”

She said the funds will likely go towards some upgrades to the playrooms.

“We'd like to give it back directly to the community into our playrooms,” she explained. “So we're looking at maybe upgrading some of our equipment. The existing equipment, some of it's been there for over 20 years. The flooring's old, we could do a paint job. I think it would just really liven up our playrooms at the Family Place. We have over hundreds of families that come in weekly to use it.”

She gave a big thanks to everyone who bought a ticket and more.

“I just want to thank the whole community, everyone who purchased a ticket,” said Gutzke. “Also, thank you to everyone who hosted us live on location. That was three weeks, we were four hours each day we were out in the community live on location, so thank you to all those people who hosted us, to sell the tickets.”

“I want to just thank to local radio team, for the effort and the genuine love they put in towards this event,” she added. “They all truly are so passionate about the work at the Family Place and it was just nice to work with them on this event. Thank you to the local radio for your time and energy into this.”

The overall jackpot was $53,760.
