“Temperatures are looking quite warm, and it’s not until Sunday that a front that’s moving through the area that temperatures will start to decrease.”

John Paul Cragg with Environment Canada describing what we can expect for the next few days. Daytime highs close to the 40° mark are expected by the weekend, close to not only single day records, but the warmest August day ever in Weyburn.

The warmest August temperature recorded in Weyburn was exactly 40° on August 8th, 1958. While the forecast is just 32° for today, Friday is calling for a high of 38°, which would be the single day record for August 10th, topping the old mark of 35.1° from 1978.

The heat is expected to last through until next week, although there will be a slight decrease in temperatures starting on Sunday. There is also little chance of any precipitation, as the system is keeping humidity down. The upside is a lower humidex value, which results in temperatures close to the forecasted high.

The system bringing the heat to Weyburn is also bringing a haze to the sky, as a result of smoke from forest fires in British Columbia. The smoke prompted Environment Canada to issue a special air quality statement.
