The mayor of Weyburn has a new hat to wear. Marcel Roy was named to the board of directors of the Canadian Association of Police Governance this past weekend. The meetings were held in Montreal.

“I hope to bring my 30 years experience in policing, and offer them some insight, some practical insight, into the police world,” Roy said after returning from the conference.

The conference saw a number of seminars and meetings for members of police commissions from across the country. Roy explained while there are a number of different communities, each in different situations, they all face similar challenges, which they strive to learn from each other in when it comes to overcoming them.

As mayor of Weyburn, Roy sits on the city’s Board of Police Commissioners, which is comprised of elected officials, and citizens. He explained the role of a police commission to assist at an arm’s length from the city administration, so the police can act outside of the influence of the city, and without any bias.
