The Christmas season has been a busy one for the Weyburn Salvation Army.

As the New year comes to the end of it's first week, the donations have been counted and there is good news to share.

"This year we had 71 families adopted with our Adopt a Family program," explains Jennifer Lorinczy, Community Ministries Coordinator for the Weyburn Salvation Army.

"We did 105 other Christmas Hampers for people in the community," she added.

The food bank saw around 2500 pounds of food donated through the different donation events that took place during the holiday season including "Pack the ambulance".

Hundreds of toys were donated including the Dairy Queen Angel tree.

283 Teddy bears were collected and given to seniors around Weyburn. The teddy bears were donated through the Teddy bear drop.

The kettle campaign saw many Weyburn volunteers in different stores around the city in December collecting cash donations as people shopped.

The goal was $40,000.

"We have exceeded that goal. Close to $42,000."

With all the total cash donations including the kettles, over $100,000 came in to the Salvation Army.

This will help the Salvation Army to run programs throughout the year including the food bank.

This is a higher total than last year.

Lorinczy gives a huge thank you to the community.

"We just want to thank you, I dont even know what to say other than thank you."

"The support we receive is always so overwhelming."
