With August well under way, the school year is just around the corner. The Salvation Army is looking to help out families in need of school supplies.

"We're running our "Back to School" program, it's our third year of running this program," says Jennifer Lorinczy the Community Ministries Coordinator. "What we're doing is we're just offering assistance to people that may need it with purchasing school supplies."

This program ensures that children headed to school start out on the right foot. There is an application form if you are needing assistance with school supplies.

"You have to apply by August 21st for assistance," says Lorinczy. "Once they fill out the form and we assess what they need we will fill the back packs as best as we can and then they will come back at a later date and pick up the back pack."

To ensure that the back packs are filled the Salvation Army has asked for donations at this time.

"If you are wanting to donate, you can either donate Walmart gift cards, cash and then anything over ten dollars you get an income tax receipt or if you just want to purchase school supplies and drop them off you can do that as well," adds Lorinczy.

Last year the program provided school supplies to over 40 children, and the Salvation Army is expecting a similar number this year.
