The City of Weyburn was paid a visit from Saskatchewan in Motion this past week in hopes of a partnership between the City and the non-profit.

The organization offers programs, tools and resources to benefit communities and help them become more active.

"Basically our mandate or our focus is to increase physical activity levels for kids and youth in the province," said Julia Frigault, Community Action Specialist for Sask in Motion. "We're in the southeast right now to work with Weyburn and neighbouring communities to see if they're interested in playing with us."

While they do focus primarily on young kids and teenagers, Sask in Motion knows the whole community can be benefitted. They also have programs to get families, parents and grandparents involved.

Frigault was in Weyburn to speak with schools, teachers, the Family Place and officials at City Hall to try and organize a partnership. She was passing on information about what they can offer and how they can help in our city.

"What we're hoping, is if in fact, Weyburn is receptive and interested in the resources we have, later on in the spring we may organize and host some events that encourage the importance of physical activity and being outside," Frigault explained. "We are here to help, I want to get that across."

Some of the resources and programs are fun events they host that can be in schools or city-wide. One Firgault spoke was a 'Community Chase', which she described as a mixture of a scavenger hunt and an obstacle course.

"A big part of our tagline is to go out and play. We want people to have fun and realize that yes, physical activity is important, but there is a fun element to it as well," Frigault said.

She's hoping for a positive reception for people in the community and maybe a potential partnership between Sask in Motion and the city.
