Candidates from the Saskatchewan Party Leadership have been touring around the province as the debates start this week on October 19th in Swift Current. Weyburn hosts one of the debates at the Cugnet centre, November 30th.

Gord Wyant, Sask Party Leadership Candidate was in Weyburn and Estevan yesterday
discussing policy.

"We've developed a couple of policies that we've announced already.I want to see us return to annual policy conventions," said Wyant who has served as the Minister for Justice for the Saskatchewan Government and Attorney General.

"I just last week issued a policy initiative with respect to federal and provincial relations including taking a very strong stand on the carbon tax, against the tax changes that the federal government has initiated, as
well as taking a very strong stand against the federal government and our
provincial partners in respect to the equalization payments."

Wyant has called for an inquiry into the Global Transportation Hub.

" I think there are issues that need to be dealt with by the Government."

"I believe and I think its pretty clear that there is a cloud over our government and over the party with respect to that particular project. I think that cloud needs to be cleared."

Wyant also said that he is a fiscal conservative but with a social conscience, and is concerned with losing the centrist base of the party supporters if the Sask Party moves away from the center politically.

The four other candidates for the Saskatchewan Party, Tina Beaudry Mellor, Alanna Koch, Scott Moe and Ken Cheldayoff have also visited Weyburn in recent weeks.

The NDP is also in a Provincial Leadership Race between Trent Wotherspoon and Ryan Meili.
