Snowmobilers will be taking part in a big rally Saturday, starting at Griffin.

The event will raise money for the Souris River Snowmobile Club.

"We've got about 80 people in the club, and probably an active volunteer base of about 20." said Rick Hallberg, club Vice President..

"We run the groomer, we do the repairs on the groomer. We put up all the signs, we've got between 8 and 10 thousand signs we've got to put up every fall and take down every spring." he added.

Hallberg added that they have invested in some expensive equipment in order to groom the trails. "We've got a great big Bombardier BR 400 Snow Cat, It's exactly what they groom ski hills with." said Hallberg. "And then we've got a drag we pull behind it, makes a nice smooth trail to ride the sleds on. We just purchased a new drag last year, that was $23,000 I believe for the new drag."

The 165 kilometre rally begins at Griffin, proceeds east to Stoughton, north to Corning, and back via Creelman.

Registration takes place from 10 until 2 at the Griffin Recreational Centre.
