Souris Avenue in Weyburn between 4th and 5th street is open to traffic again after being closed for much of the last week.

Claude Morin, Superintendent of Public Works and Parks, said there was a water main break along that stretch right before the long weekend last Friday (May 26).

"We had water coming up all along that block. We were able to shut off the water main and isolate that block. It's very difficult in these case to determine exactly where the leak is because it's coming up at numerous locations in the street," said Morin.

He said city crews dug down, almost right in front of Rainbow Recyclers, and discovered the leak was a bit further west than they had originally anticipated but they were eventually able to find it.

"We were able to ensure everybody had water for the long weekend with the exception of one business and they were closed for the entire weekend so they weren't going to be affected," he said.

Crews worked early this week to finish repairing the leak and back-fill the hole they dug. A partial road block remains over the back-filled area to allow everything to settle and firm up before it is completely opened to traffic again.

The road is now open though slightly narrowed due to the blocked off area that was back-filled. Morin said on Wednesday the road should be completely open over the weekend.
