People got their first look at the new Douglas Heights development on South Hill this weekend during an open house. The two completed houses in the development on a newly extended Confederation Drive were on display.

Mayor Marcel Roy was on-hand to cut the ribbon on the project, along with Twila Walkeden (executive director) and Larry Heggs (president) of the Weyburn Chamber of Commerce.

"I think it's well done," shared Roy after viewing the houses. "They've put a lot of work and effort and money into this and it's nice to see this project moving forward."

In addition to the houses, there are 18 single-home lots available. Also, developers 7 GB Enterprises are looking at building a 40-bed care home on the property as well as several townhouses.

"We went and had a feasibility study done and they've identified that the population is growing and there's a demand for seniors care housing in Weyburn," explained Ajit Matharu, realtor for HomeLife Real Estate and Crawford Homes.

Matharu said the developers have set aside two parcels of land to build a 40-bed care home or a 60-bed care home. He said they have a couple parties interested in building one of the proposed care homes so far.

The developers just finished phase one of Douglas Heights at the end of September, which included road and sidewalk paving as well as servicing 18 lots.
