For the second consecutive year, Southeast College has been named as one of the Top Employers in the province. It's a spinoff of the 'Canada's Top 100 Employers' competition that is conducted annually.

Thirty companies were named to the Top Employers list in Saskatchewan for 2019. Those included SIGA, Saskatchewan Blue Cross, the University of Regina and more. The Southeast College was one of a few rural employers recognized provincially.

"Anytime somebody recognizes the hard work that all of our employees are doing to make us one of the top employers in Saskatchewan it's a great day," Sheena Onrait, communications manager for the college said. "We know we're great so to have people actually recognize that and reward us for it is just fantastic."

Work can be a chore for a lot of people and especially so when working with young adults making the transition into post-secondary education. The talented staff at the SEC help to engage their students by creating a fun work environment.

"It's one of those things when you come to work every day and love your job, you can't help but be excited about what you do. I think that on a regular basis that comes off of our employees and that gets transferred to our students and members of our community, Onrait said. "When you're excited about where you work you can't help but share that."

While they are excited about shooting for the three-peat next year, Onrait said they're always trying to create an even better work environment.

"Every year we try and one-up ourselves for the following year. Last year we really focused on setting up a room in our Weyburn campus to foster some downtime for our staff," she explained. "There's always something new that we're looking at to try and create an even better working environment."
