Southeast College has another year in the books and is moving forward to continue to achieve its goals in 2019.

Enrolment numbers varied in 2018.

"We really saw an increase in our adult basic education students coming back to Southeast College, so that is students that want to come back and upgrade their high school marks or even get a grade 12 education,” said Sheena Onrait, Manager, Marketing and Communications Liaison.

“We did see a bit of a decrease in our post-secondary programs that the increase in Adult Basic was kind of a surprise and nice to see lots of students in our facilities throughout Southeast Saskatchewan," she added.

The decrease in post-secondary students has not dampened the efforts of staff moving forward.

"We had a really great year for scholarships again this year,” she said.

Onrait explained how scholarships are recruited.

“We go out to local areas and local businesses in Southeast Saskatchewan, where we have our students come from,” she said. “We talk to local businesses about the importance of donating money to the scholarship fund, how important it is for students to get those scholarships and what meaningful and impactful difference it makes their education with Southeast College.”

She said in 2018, the scholarships added up to approximately 187,000, which was combined between the Southeast College Entrance Awards that students get when they apply for our programs before June 30th each year, and merit-based scholarships that are presented at the industry and education luncheons in early May of every year.

“There's a lot of scholarship dollars available to students of Southeast College and students of southeastern Saskatchewan," said Onrait.

Though it’s not in Weyburn, the college is relaunching its Primary Care Paramedic Program.

“It's actually going to be delivered in Redvers, so it's not too too far,” she said. “There is a lot of need and were in rotation with Saskatchewan Polytechnic for the Primary Care Paramedic Program. We're excited this one is coming up in fall of 2019, so its generally a really popular program and it's usually fully subscribed with the maximum amount of students."

Southeast College continues to provide collaborative, innovative leadership in creating and ensuring learning opportunities into 2019.
